Across the purple sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it’s time for them to go?
Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming I have no thought of time
For who knows where the time goes?
Back to work tomorrow – doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since we finished and there was a huge 10 day holiday in front of us! We took the tree down as well today and it didn’t seem like 5 minutes since we’d put the thing up – strange how time flies.
And yet if you think of a specific event like going off to the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve – then it seems like an eternity ago. Strange thing time.
We went to Maidstone today where we saw this classic bit of parking! Obviously as he’s got a Porsche he can do what he likes!
It must have been a while since we’d been to Maidstone as a lot had changed and not always for the better. The once prosperous shopping centre has slipped downmarket over the past few years and there’s even a pawnbroker’s shop in the main street now! Even the upmarket Fremlin Walk is showing signs of the recession although there are obviously still people with lots of cash to spend! It’s in places like this that the gap between the richer elements and the rest of us shows the most.
The sales were rubbish really, the shop windows promised more than was delivered inside. Signs proclaiming up to 40%, 50% or even 70% off to lure the customers in were on the whole just a fabrication that the majority of people must have been able to see through. Inside you were usually met with a small rail of clothes that had been reduced and they were usually full of the unpopular sizes that make you wonder why shops don’t monitor what ends up in the bargain bin and adjust their ordering accordingly!
One shop had it’s windows plastered with signs saying up to 50% off- however a good look around inside revealed only two items that had been reduced by this sum, the rest merely had the odd 10% knocked off. Why do shops think this sort of thing works – it merely insults the very people’s intelligence you were hoping would spend their money inside!
Stop Press: I just had a look back through last years additions to my blog and noticed how much more stuff was added in the first half of the year compared with the second half. So……..
My New Year’s Resolution is: To be more creative and get more stuff out there.
So here’s one I uploaded earlier taken last week in Whitstable
